VISIT THE SPECTACULAR CHANNEL ISLAND OF GUERNSEY AND REDISCOVER WHAT LIFE'S ABOUT

Breathtaking scenery, fabulous food, and an island steeped in a rich and diverse history - there's so much to discover, that's what makes Guernsey so special. If it's the simple pleasures you're looking for, from cliff top walks to sumptuous seafood lunches, strolls on golden sands to exploring ancient forts, you'll find them here.

But for an island which feels so far from home, it's incredibly close at hand. Situated just off the north coast of France, Guernsey has a character all its own - a unique combination derived from its historical links with Britain, but with a liberal sprinkling of French influence.

You can reach Guernsey in as little as 45 minutes by air from Gatwick or Southampton (and only a little longer from a number of other regional airports), or a ferry ride from selected ports. You will be transported to a place where the language is English and the currency sterling, but where everything else has a distinctly continental feel - from the street names to the architecture, and also in the menus of the many excellent restaurants, where locally-caught seafood is a speciality.

The scenery is incredible. On the south coast, cliff paths wind their way from the island's capital, St Peter Port, all the way to the island's southwest tip - each turn of the track offering another spectacular view. The terrain changes along the west coast, where rocky coves are replaced by sandy beaches that slope towards a turquoise sea. And, in the island's rural interior, picturesque hamlets lay hidden from the march of time amidst a network of tiny country lanes. And the great thing is that because of the island's size, you don't have to drive for miles to experience all it has to offer.

Guernsey is also an island rich in history. Ancient structures suggest that the earliest settlers made Guernsey their home as long as 6,500 years ago. More recent events are evident in the many forts and sea defences that punctuate the landscape. And because of the island’s beauty, over the years a number of artists, most famously Victor Hugo, have made this their home.
