The Horniman at Forest Hill in south London is free to enter, covering its anthropology and natural history galleries, the world-famous musical instrument collection and the celebrated walrus, plus 16 acres of gardens with views right across London.

The museum’s own ticket information page confirms the museum and gardens are free to enter. The Aquarium and the Butterfly House are paid attractions and should be booked in advance if you want to include them.

There is a bandstand, an animal walk and plenty of space for children to run about, which makes it one of the better free days out in the capital.
