Run by the charity Good Things Foundation with mobile-network partners, the National Databank works like a foodbank but for mobile data, and has already handed out more than 400,000 free data packages.

To qualify you need to be 18 or over, from a low-income household, and either without adequate internet access at home or away from home or unable to afford an existing mobile contract. You must apply for yourself – hubs cannot hand SIMs to someone collecting on another person’s behalf.

Around 4,000 Digital Inclusion Hubs across the UK distribute the SIMs, and the Good Things Foundation website has a finder tool to locate your nearest one for free, friendly help.
