The National Galleries of Scotland care for one of the finest art collections in the world, spread across four Edinburgh buildings: the National on The Mound, the Portrait Gallery on Queen Street, and Modern One and Modern Two in Belford Road. Admission is free and the galleries are open daily.

Between them they cover everything from Renaissance masters and the Scottish Colourists to modern and contemporary art, plus the portraits of the people who shaped Scotland’s past and present. All four sites open from 10am to 5pm.

There is no need to book for general admission – simply turn up. A handful of major temporary exhibitions are ticketed, so check the website if a specific show has brought you in.
