The National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street in Edinburgh combines the Scottish national collections with world cultures, science, technology, design and natural history, all under one soaring Victorian glass-roofed hall. Dolly the sheep is among the exhibits.

National Museums Scotland states on the venue’s own page: “Free entry, charges for some special exhibitions.” No membership or ticket is needed for the permanent galleries.

It is open daily, 10am to 5pm, with adjusted hours around Christmas and New Year. Walk in on the day – only major temporary exhibitions need paid tickets.
