Once you turn 60, every NHS-funded sight test in the UK becomes free, with no means test, health condition or referral required – the entitlement applies automatically.
Book directly with a participating optician such as Specsavers, Boots Opticians or Vision Express, letting them know you are 60 or over; your date of birth is the only proof needed, which staff can confirm from ID at your appointment.
If you are unable to get to a practice, some opticians also offer a home visit option, and you may qualify for further help such as an NHS optical voucher towards glasses depending on your circumstances.
