The NHS offers a free flu vaccination every year to people considered at higher risk of complications, including adults aged 65 and over, pregnant women, young children (usually as a nasal spray), care home residents and anyone with certain long-term health conditions.
Eligible people can book at a participating pharmacy such as Boots, or through their GP surgery, once the NHS opens bookings each autumn – no charge applies for anyone who qualifies.
Anyone outside the eligible groups can usually still pay for a private flu jab at a pharmacy if they would prefer to be vaccinated.
