The NHS Health Check is a free mid-life MOT for your heart, covering blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, lifestyle and a calculation of your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.

Adults in England aged 40 to 74 who do not already have one of these conditions diagnosed are invited automatically by their GP practice roughly once every five years, or you can contact your GP surgery or local council to ask about booking one.

The check takes around 20–30 minutes and finishes with practical advice on how to lower any risks that are found.
