SANDEMANs run a daily guided walking tour of central Edinburgh covering the Royal Mile, the Old Town closes, Greyfriars Kirkyard and the city’s history, led by a local guide and lasting roughly two hours.

Their own tour page confirms the model: “There is no fixed price – instead, you decide how much to tip your guide based on your enjoyment and budget”, and “There is no payment necessary at the start of the tour”. Nothing is charged to book and nothing is charged if you leave part-way through.

You can reserve a place free online or simply show up at the meeting point on the day. Tipping at the end is customary but entirely voluntary, so treat the walk itself as the free part.
