Dart Valley Cottages offers a carefully chosen collection of self-catering holiday cottages in the South Hams, one of the most picturesque corners of South Devon. Properties are concentrated along the Dart Valley, spanning from the vibrant market town of Totnes down to the historic maritime port of Dartmouth, where the river Dart meets the sea beneath the watchful towers of Britannia Royal Naval College.
Many of the cottages are set in and around the waterside village of Dittisham, a tranquil spot that draws families back year after year. The river at Dittisham is ideal for sailing, with two sailing schools and a boat hire service popular with guests. A short passenger ferry ride from the village reaches Greenway House and Gardens, the former home of Agatha Christie, now cared for by the National Trust.
The selection ranges from cosy cottages for two to spacious family houses sleeping up to ten, making it straightforward to find a property that suits your group. At quieter times of year short breaks are available. The South Hams coastline is home to award-winning beaches, and the surrounding area offers excellent sailing as well as outstanding coastal and countryside walking routes.
Totnes at the head of the valley is known for its independent shops, castle, and lively community spirit. Dartmouth at the other end brings maritime history, a working harbour, and celebrated restaurants. The wider South Hams countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making the region an appealing destination whatever time of year you visit.
The majority of properties are in the Dart Valley in South Devon, with a strong concentration around Dittisham and the stretch of river between Totnes and Dartmouth. Additional cottages are available across the broader South Hams area.
The portfolio includes cottages for couples through to larger family houses sleeping up to ten people, so there is an option to suit most group sizes.
Short breaks are offered at quieter times of the year, giving flexibility for a quick getaway rather than a full week-long stay.
Guests can enjoy sailing lessons and boat hire in Dittisham, coastal and countryside walking, award-winning beaches, and visits to landmarks such as Greenway House and Gardens (National Trust) and Dartmouth Castle.
Yes. Greenway, the former home of Agatha Christie and now managed by the National Trust, is reached by a passenger ferry from Dittisham, which is a short distance from many of the riverside cottages.
Dartmouth is the closest town at the seaward end of the valley, while Totnes sits at the inland end. Both towns offer shops, restaurants, and transport links, and are within easy reach of properties along the valley.
