Ramblers Holidays has been organising guided walking holidays since 1946, when Ramblers' Association Services Ltd was founded to bring like-minded walkers together on tours at home and abroad. This Autumn 2016/Spring 2017 brochure showcases the full range of departures available at that time, from short city escapes in Europe to long-haul treks to destinations such as Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Zimbabwe. Whether you preferred a gentle stroll through a historic city or a challenging mountain route on the other side of the world, the programme had something to suit every pace and ambition.
The Autumn 2016/Spring 2017 edition introduced a host of new departures and itinerary updates across the most popular routes. A fresh category called "Short Escapes" offered the chance to explore some of Europe's greatest cities on foot over just a few action-packed days — ideal for walkers who wanted adventure without committing to a longer trip. Alongside those shorter breaks, brand-new long-haul destinations gave more experienced trekkers fresh challenges to look forward to.
Ramblers Holidays operated more than 250 holidays across 60-plus countries at the time this brochure was produced. European favourites sat alongside far-flung itineraries covering Africa, the Caribbean and beyond. The breadth of the programme meant that walkers could choose a leisurely cultural tour, a coastal path, or a high-altitude trek, all led by experienced guides and organised to a consistent standard that the brand had maintained since its post-war origins.
The brochure highlighted a number of ways to secure a good price. An Early Booking Discount of up to £40 per person was available to those who reserved their place ahead of time, and a Best Price Guarantee was in place to reassure travellers that they would always pay the lowest advertised rate. These offers reflected the company's long-standing commitment to making quality guided walking holidays accessible to a wide audience.
Ramblers Holidays catered for a wide range of walkers, from beginners looking for gentle European breaks to seasoned trekkers seeking long-haul expeditions. Groups were typically graded by pace and fitness level so that participants could choose a holiday that matched their ability.
The Autumn 2016/Spring 2017 programme included short city walking breaks under the "Short Escapes" banner, classic European walking holidays, and longer worldwide treks. New destinations such as Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Zimbabwe were among the highlights introduced in this edition.
The company traces its origins to 1946, when Ramblers' Association Services Ltd was set up as the commercial arm of the Ramblers' Association to organise walking tours for members. By the time this brochure was published in 2016, the operator had been running guided walking holidays for 70 years.
Guided group walking holidays of this kind have traditionally attracted a significant proportion of solo travellers, who benefit from the built-in social aspect of travelling with a like-minded group and the security of having an experienced leader on hand throughout.
The brochure covered a broad geographical spread, including destinations across Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and further afield. With over 60 countries featured across the wider Ramblers Holidays portfolio at the time, travellers had a wide choice of landscapes and cultures to explore on foot.
