Empire Stores Catalogue Credit Accounts

As with the vast majority of catalogues, Empire Stores offers a credit account to pay for purchases. These accounts are subject to credit checks and enable you to pay for purchases over an extended period of time.

PPI was often added onto these credit accounts and may have been mis-sold to you. It’s possible that PPI wasn’t appropriate for your circumstances or you may not have been told that it was added.

Empire Stores PPI Claim

Many did not carefully read the small print of the account terms and conditions, and PPI was often included to accounts without being brought to the customer’s attention. It was also often added as an afterthought, and you may have received a letter telling you that the product had been added to the account.

Before making a claim for mis-sold PPI, find out if your Empire Stores catalogue account had PPI attached to it. This applies to both the online catalogue facility and the more traditional paper catalogue.

Grounds On Which PPI May Have Been Mis-Sold By Empire Stores

  • You believed Empire Stores sold you the wrong insurance product.
  • You were not made aware by Empire Stores that you were being sold PPI on your account.
  • You were led to believe by Empire Stores that you needed to buy PPI from them to be accepted for the catalogue account.
  • You were told by Empire Stores that having the PPI policy was a compulsory requirement.
  • Empire Stores didn’t check if you had any pre-existing medical conditions before selling you the cover.
  • Empire Stores didn’t check to see if you already had this type of insurance cover through your employer or another policy.
  • Empire Stores did not check your employment status to ensure you were not self-employed, unemployed or retired as PPI does not cover these.

How To Make a PPI Claim With Empire Stores?

Start by finding your paperwork with evidence of mis-sold PPI. You will need this to make a claim.

If you notice that your account had PPI attached to it, think back to when it was sold to you. Can you remember when or why you agreed to it? Were you informed that it would be added?

If you can’t remember please don’t worry as this can be done during the PPI check with Empire Stores catalogue.

How To Start Your PPI Claim With Empire Stores?

Please Note: The PPI deadline (29th August 2019) set by the FCA has now passed and we are no longer accepting any new PPI claims.

What Is Empire Stores PPI?

There are many ways of referring to Empire Stores payment protection insurance (PPI), these include credit insurance, credit protection or loan repayment insurance. The purpose of PPI was to help a borrower make their repayments to Empire Stores if they couldn’t due to an unforeseen event, such as sickness, injury or redundancy.

Income protection insurance is designed to cover 70% of the policyholder’s income if they can’t work due to accident or sickness. This is long-term protection and can cover a person until they retire if they are too ill or injured to work.

Many PPI policies sold by Empire Stores were added on to a loan, credit/store card, mortgage or an overdraft.

How Was Empire Stores PPI Mis-Sold?

Some customers were sold Empire Stores PPI without knowing it had been added to their loan. Consumers say that Empire Stores advised them their loan, mortgage or credit card application would not be approved if they didn’t buy Empire Stores PPI. This meant borrowers took out the Empire Stores PPI, even though they may not need it because they didn’t want to risk losing the deal.
