ATG Oxford - Walking, cycling and special interest Brochure

ATG Oxford, from Alternative Travel Group Limited, was founded on the belief that the best way to see a country is on foot. Its Holiday Planner brought together independent and escorted walking and cycling trips through some of the most beautiful and interesting parts of Europe, Africa and Asia.

Three ATG Programmes

The ATG Oxford brochure detailed three distinct programmes, each designed for a different style of traveller, all combining excellent walking with comfortable, characteristic accommodation along the route.

  • ATG Original Journeys – escorted groups of up to 16 clients, accompanied by two highly trained ATG guides, walking continuous routes in Europe chosen for their natural beauty and cultural interest.
  • ATG Discovering – escorted groups of up to 16 clients with two ATG guides, combining excellent walking with the very best of each area, from art, architecture and flowers to wine, wildlife and safari, in Europe, Asia and Africa.
  • ATG Footloose and ATG Freewheeling – independent walking and cycling itineraries along continuous routes in Europe.

Escorted Original Journeys

On ATG Original Journeys, travellers stayed in comfortable and characteristic accommodation en route, with luggage moved to the next hotel by the ATG Tour Manager, who also prepared an abundant picnic lunch each day. Guests could walk as much or as little as they chose, with support provided by the Tour Manager and a deluxe ATG Mercedes minibus. Prices were all inclusive, excluding flights.

Independent Footloose and Freewheeling

For those preferring to travel independently, ATG Footloose and ATG Freewheeling offered self-guided walking and cycling along continuous European routes. An ATG Route Manager based on each route moved luggage to the next hotel and was available 24 hours a day in case of emergency. Prices included accommodation, luggage transfers, the services of the ATG Route Manager and the ATG route booklet, containing a detailed itinerary, background information and details relevant to the local area.
